May Moments

Y'all...life with two kiddos is crazy! I am SO behind that I'm just now posting about May. MAY, people...sheesh. To be honest though, since May, we have hit the ground running just about every day to keep up with everyone's schedules and special events. But the good thing is that we've had a lot to celebrate and a lot to be thankful for!

EVERYDAY LIFE
At the start of May, I was waddling along at 32 weeks pregnant, and it made me really sad that Emma only had four more weeks of school left. It was a great outlet for her to burn some energy because let's be honest, I was in full-on pajama bum mode when we had days at home. It seemed like every school day I had a gazillion doctor appointments since I was going to the OB weekly and every other doctor wanted to get in one last visit before Henry's arrival. So when she was at school, I really didn't have any down time. We indulged ourselves in a lot of movie watching and found Emma's new favorite iPad app, Disney Jigsaw Puzzles. Emma could do puzzles all day long, so this was made for her.

Luckily, the end of school was really fun for Emma. They had all kinds of fun outdoorsy events, which the kids loved after being shut inside all of April after the Tax Day floods. Her favorite day at school was Splash Day. Emma was so excited to get to wear her swimsuit to school; she couldn't wait to get outside and splash around. They had all kinds of cool stations for the kids set up outside - a carwash, a baby doll wash, fishing ponds, splash areas. It was a lot of fun for them all! On the last day of school we took our annual picture, and I can't believe how much she had grown from September to May.

PHILIP AND ASHLEY'S WEDDING
This year is a busy one for the Walther family with two weddings and a new grandbaby on the way. My brother Philip's wedding on May 7th kicked off all the celebrations. Being the flower girl, Emma was excited to get all fancified. We hadn't really explained to her what a wedding was or what it meant to be a flower; all she knew was that there was going to be a party with dancing and cake and that she got to wear a special dress.

On Friday, I took her to get her nails done at the salon. Knowing her aversion to having her nails trimmed, I did that at home so that all they would have to do is shape and paint them. What would normally take me 30+ minutes to do, the ladies at the salon did in 10 minutes, which I consider money well spent. Emma enjoyed the pampering too and was more than happy to show off her painted fingers and toes to everyone.

That night we headed out to Moffitt Oaks in Tomball for the rehearsal. Everyone got their instructions, and we gave Emma her flower girl basket to carry while she practiced. Of course, the first thing she noticed was that there was nothing in her basket! So she proceeded to work her magic and ended up getting some coins from Ashley's dad, Howard. She was happy to have it all jingling around when she walked. At the rehearsal, we showed Emma how she was supposed to walk down the aisle and give Uncle Philip a kiss. While this an easy-peasy task for her, getting her to come down off of the stage to sit with us afterwards was not so easy. Never let it be said that Emma ever passed up a good chance to dance and be the center of attention on a stage! After the rehearsal, we all headed to Lupe Tortilla for a yummy fajita dinner and a time to celebrate the bride and groom-to-be one more time before the big day.

Saturday was a big day for everyone with the wedding that evening. We spent most of the day prepping and primping before we headed back out to Moffitt Oaks. We had to be there early to finish getting ready and to take some pictures before the wedding. Emma loved getting to see everyone in their pretty dresses and taking pictures with Ashley in her wedding dress. The wedding ceremony was beautiful, and everyone had a blast at the reception. We are very blessed to welcome Ashley into our family! Here are just a few pictures from the day (there are more in the link at the end of the blog).

STEPHEN'S GRADUATION
Just five days after Philip and Ashley's wedding, it was time to head to College Station for Stephen's graduation from Texas A&M with a degree in aerospace engineering. Since the ceremony was at 7pm on a Thursday night, we scooped up Emma from school and headed straight to the house in College Station to grab some dinner beforehand. Emma was excited to see Uncle Stephen, but I think even more excited to see Emily and her sisters (sorry Stephen!). Since Emily had spent the night at our house for the wedding, Emma had been asking when she was going to see Emily again.

Since his degree was in aerospace engineering, Stephen's major was the first major to graduate. In fact, he was seated in the second row. However, that meant we had to wait through all the other majors to graduate before we could leave. For a two hour ceremony, Emma did pretty good flitting back and forth between people to entertain her, painting her WaterWows, and watching some TV on the iPad. Afterwards, we all went back to the house for presents and pictures.

So what's next for Stephen? Well, he's getting married on July 16th, and then he and Emily are packing up and moving to Wichita, Kansas where he has taken a job with Spirit Aerosystems as a Structural Analysis Engineer. When I asked him what that meant he'd be doing, he wasn't 100% certain but he thinks he'll probably be running models through different scenarios to test the structural integrity, or as he put it, staring at a computer all day. While we're sad that Stephen won't be here with us in Texas anymore, we're proud of all he's accomplished and know he will rock this new job in Kansas.

HENRY'S BABY SHOWER
Me at almost 36 weeks and Emma
Our last big event for the month of May was a baby shower for Henry. With everyone being so busy in the month of May, my mom and mother-in-law decided to make it easy by having it at a restaurant. Of course, Los Cucos was top on my list; I love everything Mexican food related and even more so when pregnant. While we didn't need a whole lot of stuff for baby #2, there were a few items like bottles and pacifiers that needed replacing, and we did need some duplicate items to be able to use down in Kevin's apartment in Corpus. Plus, Henry kind of needed something to wear!

While Emma and I headed off to the shower, Kevin used the time at home alone to work on painting and installing more bead board in Henry's room. He had been quite the weekend warrior up to that point coming home almost every weekend to work on the room, and he just needed one more weekend to finish it up.

Henry's room is done in a lodge theme, so the décor for the shower was the same. My mom even had super cute animal cookies made from our favorite bakery, Suzybeez. We had a wonderful time celebrating Henry's upcoming arrival with family and friends and were blessed to be showered with so much love and generosity.
